The Basic principles and ways of musefication of memorial site on the alley of Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Kyiv

Sights associated with the events of the Euromaidan have recently emerged in the conversations of conservation professionals. Unfortunately, today such sights lack proper exploration. One of the most significant monuments representing the events of the Revolution of Dignity and closely connected with its heroes is the landmark in the heart of the capital on the alley of Heavenly Hundred Heroes. On February 20, 2014, protesters who wanted to defend European integration went to the Instytutska street (an old name of this part of the street) and were killed. After those dramatic, but at the same time heroic, events, this place became sacred for many Ukrainians. Because of this, after the end of the Revolution, the named territory was isolated as a monument and set aside for the construction of the museum-memorial complex.

Almost six years have passed since the Revolution. The landmark is still just a part of the city where people often drive and park their cars, violating the ban. Such behavior, along with the acts of vandalism, had a negative impact on the objects that were witnesses of the Revolution. The tragic events of 2014 represented only by single homemade memorial signs, which were spontaneously installed in previous years. The question of how to protect, preserve, and at the same time use the monument as a cultural heritage site is still unresolved.

This article offers some proposals for the museification of the monument of the revolution. Said proposals were developed by experts in recent years to protect the cultural heritage site and ensure its proper adaptation for the sightseeing. In their report, the authorities have described the characteristic features of the monument, with the classification of its internal components and distinctive properties of each of the subgroups. They have also designated the current state of the monument and the risks of its integrity preservative, offering the basic principles of the landmark museification.
